MIT is the 21 Backdrop

Ben Campbell seems like your typical bright college kid. And he is - until one of his teachers at MIT takes notice of his special mathematical talents.
You see, Mickey Rosa is more than just a teacher. He’s the man behind MIT’s semi-secret club, the Blackjack Team. And this team is not just an extra-curricular activity. For Mickey, Ben, and the rest of the kids on the team, it’s a money-making venture. They’ve got a plan to win millions of dollars playing Blackjack at casinos all over the country.


That’s the plot behind the new movie 21, slated to be released this March by Columbia Pictures. It’s a story line that’s sure to draw crowds. This movie has got what it takes to appeal to everyone - from romance and drama to Hollywood super stars.

So which actors and actresses will be starring in this compelling new film? First of all, there’s Kevin Spacey. He plays Mickey Rosa, the MIT professor who starts off as the good guy - he gives the kids a chance to use their intellect to make money. Throughout the course of the movie, Rosa’s personality turns critical and even threatening. After all, Rosa is the man behind the plan, and he wants to make sure the blackjack team members follow his rules. As usual, Spacey seems to portray the role of Rosa phenomenally. He’s got the perfect combination of nutty professor and seedy card shark personality to make the performance convincing.
Also on the list of stars is Kate Bosworth. She plays the role of Jill Taylor, one of the students on the Blackjack Team and Ben Campbell’s main love interest. Bosworth does add a lot to the film - she plays the part with girl-next-door sex appeal and serves as the backdrop for a deeper look into the psyche of the main character.
Last on the list of big stars to make an appearance in 21 is Laurence Fishburne, who plays the casino detective. He does a good job of looking appropriately threatening and tough. Fishburne’s well-played part ups the fear factor in the film; his harsh words and phsyical abuse are directed at Ben Campbell who leads the pack of MIT card counters.

21 Has All the Ingredients of a Great Movie

Talented actors and actresses are important. But equally important in any film are the plot and pace. What could be better than an action packed film that combines romance, fantasy, and drama?
21 has it all. The plot is based on a true story, which interestingly enough, adds an element of fantasy to the film. Hey, if it could happen to a bunch of kids at MIT, it could happen to anyone, right? The screenwriters also managed to infuse the film with a perfect amount of drama. It’s got the crazy idea, the secret club, the vacationing in Vegas....and then, in come the casino cops and detectives who want to take it all away. And of course, what’s a movie without a little bit of romance? Young love between Ben and Jill adds an element of fairy tale flirtation and turns a drama into a love story.

So, what’s the verdict on 21?
